The Mazda 2 saw daylight in 2002, when it was launched together with the second generation of the Mazda Demio (marketed under this name only in Japan since 1996, elsewhere as the Mazda 121 and from 2002 onwards as Mazda 2). The Mazda 2 saw daylight in 2002, when it was launched together with the second generation of the Mazda Demio (marketed under this name only in Japan since 1996, elsewhere as the Mazda 121 and from 2002 onwards as Mazda 2). The Demio was originally a small minivan or a tall station wagon, but the Mazda 2 has always been classed as a subcompact car. Since its inception, the used Mazda 2 has earned itself a name for being practical and fun to drive. It is comfortable and balanced with nicely weighted steering making parking in small spaces a breeze. Acceleration can feel a little slow in the used Mazda 2, especially from low engine speeds, but once at higher speeds the used Mazda is also pleasant and fast on highways. The used Mazda 2 is in many ways highly similar to the Ford Fiesta / Fusion as it shares its platform, running gears and engines with the Fords. Handling leaves nothing to be desired as the grip on the road is superb and the steering of the used Mazda 2 is very responsive. In 2008 the used Mazda 2 received recognition for its great design as it was chosen World Car Design of the Year.
